The Northern Epirotic Society of Boston, NORTHERN EPIRUS , consists
of American citizens descended from Northern Epirus in Albania and
Greece, condemn the racist death of Greek expatriot in Himara,
Aristotelis Goumas, 35, American descent residing in the Greek Minority
region of Himara, simply because he was speaking Greek.
The region of Himara is a well known Greek minority territory confirmed
also from the Prime Minister of Albania, yesterday in the media. Himara region
has not been recognized for any minority rights, from the Albanian government.
This is the last incident in a long row of terrorism to the Greek people of
Himara from the Albanian government and Albanians citizens from property
issues to death of innocent Greek autochthons.
Criminal actions like this are intended to stimulate Ethnic tension with
Unpredictable consequences and undermine the bilateral relations between
Greece and Albania.
The respect and protection of Ethnic Greek’s rights and security, beyond the
self evident obligation of the Albanian government, is also mandated by inter-
national law and the European communicative for which Albania desires
integration. Greek Minority in Albania as all Minorities in the world has its
own rights that should be respected by both the Albania government and the Albanian citizens.
The Board of Directors and Members of the Society demand from the
Albanian government the following:
To prosecute the murders of the Greek homogene , Aristoteli Goumas from
Himara, demanding imperatively from the Albanian government that the fugitives who committed this crime be brought before justice.
The Albanian government should ensure the proper expeditious administration
of justice, which serves as the only practical response to the legitimate concerns
of the Greek National Minority.
We also demand the recognition of the Greek language and the Greek National
character of the district of Himara.
Finally with all our respect we urge the American Government to proceed
immediately and take all necessary steps to the Albanian government to ensure
full investigation and justice in this case, recognize, secure and respect all minority rights.
