You are cordially invited to attend the 27th Annual Pilgrimage and Festival of the Holy Institution Panagia Soumela in honor of the Dormition of our Most Holy Mother of Mount Mela “Panagia Soumela” to be celebrated at the Panagia Soumela Chapel located at 253 Marshall Hill Road, West Milford, NJ 07480 according to the following schedule:
$ Friday, August 13th 2010 – Festival at 5:00 p.m.
$ Saturday, August 14th – Festival at 1:00 p.m. and Vespers at 7:00 p.m.
$ Sunday, August 15th – Orthros and Divine Liturgy at 9:00 a.m. and all-day Festival
This year's Pilgrimage is of special importance because it coincides with a historic event. After 88 years (i.e. after the disastrous Catastrophe of Asia Minor and Pontos and the inevitable population exchange of 1922) the historic Monastery in Pontos will officially reopen for a liturgy officiated by His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Hence, for the first time the three worldwide Monasteries of Panagia Soumela will have liturgies -- the historic one in Pontos that was founded in 386 A.D., the second one in Mount Vermio in Macedonia where the holy icon (painted by Evangelist Lucas) is housed, and our Chapel in America.

Το φετινό Προσκύνημα έχει ιδιαίτερη σημασία γιατί ταυτίζεται με ένα κοσμοϊστορικό γεγονός. Μετά από 88 χρόνια (δηλαδή μετά την ολέθρια Καταστροφή της Μικράς Ασίας και του Πόντου και την μοιραία ανταλλαγή πληθυσμών του 1922) θα ξαναλειτουργήσει η ιστορική Μονή στον Πόντο προεξάρχοντος του Παναγιότατου Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχη κ. Βαρθολομαίου. Έτσι για πρώτη φορά θα συλλειτουργήσουν οι τρεις ανά τον κόσμο Μονές της Παναγίας Σουμελά – η ιστορική Μονή στον Πόντο που ιδρύθηκε το 386 μ.Χ., η δεύτερη στο Βέρμιο της Μακεδονίας όπου στεγάζεται η θαυματουργός εικόνα που είναι έργο του ευαγγελιστή Λουκά και η δική μας Μονή στην Αμερική.
