Ο Αρμενικής και Ελληνικής καταγωγής Άρης Μπαμπικιάν, μέλος του Κοινοβουλίου του Οντάριο του Καναδά, με τη συμβολή του Ελληνοκαναδικού Κογκρέσου, το οποίο πρωτοστάτησε στις 12 αναγνωρίσεις της Γενοκτονίας από πόλεις του Καναδά, κατέθεσε αίτηση για αναγνώριση της Γενοκτονίας.

RE: Bill 97, An Act to proclaim Genocide
Awareness, Commemoration, Prevention and Education Month
Dear
Premier Ford,
On behalf
of [name of the organization] we are writing to you to express our support for Bill 97, An Act to proclaim Genocide
Awareness, Commemoration, Prevention and Education Month, introduced on April 8th
by Mr. Aris Babikian, MPP, Scarborough Agincourt.
Many
members of our communities are the survivors and/or descendants of genocidal
acts committed upon them by totalitarian regimes in their respective homelands.
Mr.
Babikian’s Bill makes an extremely important contribution to the noble task of
recognizing and preventing genocides and other crimes against humanity and at
the same time honours the sacrifices and memory of those who perished. And it
further, creates a framework and contributes to the universal struggle for the
prevention of genocides, the restoration of rights of the people subjected to
genocide and the establishment of historical justice.
As
Ontarians and Canadians we strongly believe that it is our share responsibility
to acknowledge the past, stand up against injustice and work collaboratively to
deter and prevent further violations of human rights.
As
Ontarians, regardless of our ethnic origin and religious affiliation, we must
unite our efforts to restore historical justice and paying tribute to the memory
of the victims of the genocides and take steps to prevent and ensure that such
heinous crimes are never inflicted upon our fellow human beings.
With your
personal support and that of your colleagues in the Ontario Legislature, this
Bill should become law, and such will add awareness of humanity’s evils,
contribute to our collective historic memory as Ontarians and serve to teach
future generations and help mankind take steps to prevent such heinous crimes
from being repeated.
