Conference on Greek Genocide and Displaced Greeks

WORLD CONGRESS OF DISPLACED GREEKS



300 representatives of displaced Greeks from Pontos, Smyrna, Asia Minor, Constantinoupolis, Imvros, Tenedos, Thrace, Ipeiros and Cyprus assembled in Nicosia, Cyprus, on the 19th of February 2011, in a World Congress, on the initiative of the Kyrenia refugees Association “Adouloti Kerinia” and the Cyprus Research Center- “KYKEM”.

The Human Rights aspect of the genocide perpetrated by Turkish Governments since World War 1, to this day were discussed. The destruction of Christian places of worship, churches and Monasteries, as well as monuments of cultural heritage, were also discussed in the light of the United Nations code for the Right to the Homeland and the protection of Cultural heritage.

Among the speakers were Thea Halo from New York, Prof. Alfred des Zayas from the school of Diplomacy of Geneva, nominee of the Nobel Price for peace, Dr. Theophanis Malkides, Dr. Christos Iakovou of “KYKEM”, Stelios Varypatis, Ioannis Kourianides, Filotheos Kemetzetzides and Ioannis Shekersavvas Secretary of “Adouloti Kerinia”.

The Congress concluded with the recommendation:

v To set up a joint standing Committee of all the displaced Greeks in order to bring before the UN and EU Institutions the violations of Human Rights perpetrated by Turkey against them.
